Sealed Carrara Marble

  1. Clean before sealing

Make sure you clean your stone floor, countertop or shower before you seal to remove surface dirt and particles. Use neutral cleaners such as Lavenet or Lavenet Green.

  1. Decide between an Impregnator Sealer or a Topical Sealer

Impregnator Sealers do not change the appearance of the natural stone surface. They do not add shine or color. It preserves the natural look of the stone by not altering the appearance. We recommend Seal & Go® S or Seal & Go® W.

Impregnator Enhancer Sealers do not add shine, but they enhance the natural color(s) of the natural stone. If you think your flamed granite, slate, flagstone, or bluestone look a little faded, an enhancer sealer may be a good option. We recommend Seal & Go® Enhancer S.

Topical Sealers are surface forming sealers such as acrylic or wax. Topical sealers can add shine to stones that are textured and cannot be naturally polished, such as slate or flamed granite. We recommend acrylic sealer, Seal Out.

Please keep in mind none of these sealers protects marble, travertine, limestone or terrazzo from acid, ammonia or alcohol.

Sealed Bluestone

  1. For larger areas, use a rayon mop

When sealing your floor, avoid a cotton mop. Cotton mops will soak up the sealer, instead of spreading it. Use a rayon mop or paint roller and seal in sections. Don’t tackle the whole entire floor in one go.

For smaller areas like countertops or showers, you can spray on the impregnator sealer with a trigger sprayer and saturate the surface with the sealer.

  1. For exterior stone floors and grill tops, don’t seal stone when it’s very hot outside

First of all, we want you to be safe. Don’t get overheated during these Summer months. Secondly, patios and pool areas can get very hot and you should not seal your stone surface when it is hot. The Impregnator Sealer needs to soak into your stone for about 15-20 minutes and if the stone is very hot, it will dry too fast.

  1. For Impregnator Sealers, don’t forget to wipe up sealer residue after 15-20 minutes

This is the time where you can use a cotton mop and/or cotton cloth. You do not want your impregnator sealer to dry on the stone surface. Make sure you clean up all sealer residue otherwise the sealer will become sticky or greasy. After you wipe off the residue, the sealer takes 12 hours to cure.

  1. Re-seal annually

Sealers do not last forever. We recommend re-sealing your stone (especially exterior stone and stone in high traffic areas) every year.
