This blog post isn’t going to be about using diamond discs to grind an extremely worn floor or removing lippage between two tiles. This post is all about polishing compounds (powders), but not just any type of compound. We’re talking about non-acid honing and polishing compounds.

Acid compounds are great…as long as you know exactly how to use them. If you are trying to polish a marble, terrazzo, or travertine floor and are unfamiliar with acidic compounds, you are likely to burn (or etch) not only the stone surface, but even the baseboards as well!

That’s why we like Ver Glow #1, our honing compound and Ver Glow #2, our polishing compound. Both products are natural and contain no acid, so you won’t etch the stone.

If your stone surface is fairly worn or has a lot of embedded dirt, we recommend starting with Ver Glow #1 for honing marble, travertine or limestone. Ver Glow #1 also prepares the floor for polishing with Ver Glow #2.

If the stone is not so worn, you can just go straight to Ver Glow #2 for limestone, terrazzo, and travertine polishing. Ver Glow #2 also provides a high quality shine even on hard-to-polish marbles, such as dark green and crystalline marbles. This product is the most user-friendly marble polishing product on the market for professionals.

Not to worry my dear non-professional homeowners, you can use Ver Glow #2 too in our Etch Removing Kit on marble, limestone, travertine and other porous natural stones. This kit is great for removing small etch marks (acid burns) like glass rings created by acids such as lemon, vinegar, citric juices, acid base cleaners, etc.

Now, go forth and confidently hone and polish your natural stone without the worry of etching, burning, or scratching the surface!

The age-old question: How do I polish natural stone?
